Invitations

Maria White

23 September - 27 September 2014

Opening Night Tuesday

In her first exhibition, Maria White brings a performative lens to objects and text. Invitations naively takesthe world at face value in order to explore our contemporary relationships, which are often shaped by the internet and fast-paced communication. Using materials from a sentimental site, familial nostalgia is intertwined with spam and other meaningless cultural off-cuts, with the intention of dissolving historical attachments.

ID: Two makeup compacts sit on a wooden surface. One compact is pink, the other white, with a mirror. Reflected in the mirror of the white compact are gum leaves with red blossoms. The pan of each compact is filled with a green glitter cream.
